Collaborative Online International Learning and Teaching experience with La Salle Mexico
On May 4th, 2020, the final presentations of the collaborative works carried out by the students of the Faculty of Engineering enrolled in the Algorithms and Numerical Methods class of La Salle University (Bogota, Colombia), taught by Dr. Mario Noriega and the students of Chemical Kinetics and Design of Homogeneous Reactors, of the Department of Chemical Sciences of La Salle University (Mexico), taught by Dr. Tomas Chaves, were developed in a virtual way.
In this experience, the students of Chemical Engineering and Food Engineering programs of La Salle University (Bogotá, Colombia), organized teams with their peers in La Salle University Mexico and developed cultural and academic exchange activities.
3D concentration profiles obtained for the PFR reactor with axial and radial dispersion as a result of the collaborative project.
As for the academic work, at the end of the collaborative experience, the students designed a PFR reactor with axial and radial dispersion, integrating technical concepts acquired in the learning of both subjects. Additionally, they shared information about some productive sectors of their countries and about the technological developments in both countries.
Regarding the cultural exchange, the participants had the opportunity to know through their peers, different touristic places, which they will be able to visit in the future. Likewise, they were able to share a little about their culture in each region and to begin the consolidation of new social networks within the Lasallian institutions.
The cultural and academic exchange activities were carried out using different tools to encourage distance working, including video conferences, video calls and text messages. The conclusion of this experience is that it is possible, through international collaborative teaching, to develop projects together with students from different countries and live an educational experience without moving from their place of residence.
