Lasallian ambassador in Canada: an emerging leader.
This year, Laura Cristina Galvis, senior year student from B. A. in Spanish, English and French at Universidad de La Salle, received a scholarship from the Emerging Leaders of the Americas Program (ELAP), to study at Mount Royal University, in Alberta (Canadá). “The prestigious award is a federally funded initiative that seeks to support the development of human capital and the next generation of leaders in the Americas while strengthening the linkages between postsecondary institutions in Canada and Latin America and the Caribbean”.
Laura is definitely an emerging leader who wants to put her stamp on the world. At La Salle, she belongs to a research group called “Autenticos”, which is looking for connecting rurality and urban societies, through peace narratives. “I want to make the most of this experience and learn about different education methods, which I hope I can apply to my life project as a future teacher in Colombia, focused on rural areas” she argued.
This leadership experience would allow Laura to improve her skills and apply her knowledge in other latitudes, as well as having another perspective that helps to consolidate her as a global citizen. Laura mentioned, "I want to understand how is currently managed rurality in Canada and to learn new practices that can be applied in my country".
An international academic experience becomes a differential element that allows our students achieve their academic and personal goals, and be able to respond to the challenges of society and culture.
